New Xiaomi Redmi Go is an Android Go Smartphone Which is Expected to Debut Soon: Specifications and Pricing
Xiaomi furthered its smartphone line-up in China by launching the Mi Play smartphone. This new device is a mid-ranger promising impressive specification and hardware which will appeal to mobile phone gamers, but, there has been no news whether or not the device will come to India. However, keeping the Mi Play aside, there is one device in the making by Xiaomi which will definitely make its way to the Indian market, and it is the Android Go phone by Xiaomi. This new phone will probably come with the moniker of Redmi Go. However, this might just be speculation. When the phone comes to India, it will go against the likes of Nokia 1, Nokia 2 and the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, which are other Android Go phones in India. What’s noteworthy is that these phones have struggled to gain traction in the Indian market, but the Xiaomi Redmi Go might prove to be the game changer in this segment.
Redmi Go Expected Specifications and Pricing
Currently, the cheapest and latest offering by Xiaomi in the budget segment is the Xiaomi Redmi 6A which retails at a starting price of Rs 5,999. However, since the Redmi Go will boot Android Go, which is toned down version of the actual Android specially optimised for low-end phones, it will come with an even more affordable price tag. The new Redmi Go has been expected to bear a price tag between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000. Also, at this price range, the Redmi Go will probably pack 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage similar to other Android Go phones.
Although there hasn’t been any official news about the Redmi Go, many have spotted listings of the phone on platforms across US, China, and Russia with the model number M1903C3GG. There have been many speculations and rumours surrounding the Redmi Go, which note that the phone might be launched soon after Xiaomi launches its 48MP phone, the expected Redmi Pro 2, in January.
The leaks which have surfaced online also highlight that the Redmi Go will sport an 18:9 aspect ratio screen, ensuring a modern standard viewing experience. Further, the leaks have revealed that in dimensions the phone will measure 141 x 71 mm and 150mm diagonally. This hints that the phone will sport a 5.9-inch display.
The other leaked and rumoured features of the Redmi Go include Bluetooth 4.2 and dual SIM support. Additionally, the software on this device will be its main highlight which will come with pre-installed Android Go apps like YouTube Go, Files Go, Maps Go and others.
Many have also asserted that the phone will make its place somewhere in between the smartphone and feature phone category as it will allow the users to browse the internet, check messages of WhatsApp, check Instagram and Facebook feed too. Also, there have been no updates as to what hardware the Redmi Go will pack, however, since the phone is a budget oriented device it will likely sport the MediaTek SoC or an entry-level Snapdragon processor which will suffice for basic gaming and day to day tasks.
Similarly, there has been no update about what camera the phone will sport. Although, we expect that there are going to be single sensors on both front and back. In this regard, other Android Go phones like the Nokia 1 pack a 5MP camera on the rear side with a fixed-focus lens and an LED flash, while there is a 2MP fixed-focus camera on the front. The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, on the other hand, features an 8MP f/2.2 aperture sensor on the rear panel and a 5MP selfie shooter.
Redmi Go’s India Debut
Since Xiaomi has put a lot of emphasis on its budget based offerings in India, the company is expected to follow on the same lines and launch the Redmi Go in India as well. Also, the low range smartphones of Xiaomi have performed well in the Indian market, which further strengthens the probability of Xiaomi launching this phone. The Chinese manufacturer has also begun the work for its 2019 line-up which will include titles like Redmi 7A, Redmi 7 and Redmi 7 Pro, and 48MP Xiaomi phone (expected Redmi Pro 2). Xiaomi might also launch the Mi A2 successor in India, which will be the Xiaomi Mi A3.
