The Xiaomi Redmi 7 has been launched in India alongside the Redmi Y3 which starts at Rs 9,999. To recall, the Redmi 7 was launched in China a couple of weeks ago and it comes powered by the same Snapdragon 632 SoC we saw on the Redmi Y3. The Xiaomi Redmi 7 is being touted as ‘The Ultimate All-Rounder’ by the company and why not because it’s probably the powerful phone in its price range. The Redmi 7 replaces the Redmi 6 which disappointed a lot of users as it was not aimed at the power users because it arrived with an Helio P22 chipset. The Redmi 7 features a 4000mAh battery, comes with MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie and also the trendy gradient design. The Redmi 7 prices in India start at Rs 7,999 and it comes in two variants.
Xiaomi Redmi 7: Specifications and Features
As noted, the Redmi 7 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset which we saw on the likes of the Honor 8C and Asus Zenfone Max M2. The Snapdragon 632 SoC is a direct successor to the Snapdragon 625 SoC which Xiaomi used on several of its smartphones. As for the cameras, the Redmi 7 features 12MP+2MP camera set up on the rear sides with several camera modes like AI Portrait mode and AI Scene Detection (first on a Redmi series phone. On the front, the Redmi 7 has an 8MP selfie camera with the same AI Portrait mode and Auto HDR feature.
On the rear side, there’s a fingerprint scanner and the phone also has Face Unlock feature. As seen with recent Xiaomi smartphones, the Redmi 7 also has an all-new design which Xiaomi is calling it as Aura Design. Having said that, Xiaomi has used a plastic body on the Redmi 7 to save costs. The Redmi 7 comes in three different colour options- Lunar Red and Comet Blue. And there’s the standard Eclipse Black colour variant as well.
The Redmi 7 sports a 6.26-inch HD+ display on the front with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Going by the specifications of the display, it seems like the same one present on the slightly higher priced Redmi Y3. The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, IR Blaster and three-card slot.
Xiaomi has added a 4000mAh unit on the Redmi 7 and it has a Micro USB port for charging. The Redmi 7 competes with the Realme C2 and the Asus Zenfone Max M2 in India.
Xiaomi Redmi 7: Pricing and Availability
Xiaomi has launched two variants of the Redmi 7 in India and it did not launch the 2GB+16GB variant. The Redmi 7 with 2GB of RAM and 32GB storage is priced at Rs 7,999, and the premium 3GB+32GB variant that comes for Rs 8,999. The first sale of the handset will take place on April 29 at 12 PM across Mi.com, Amazon India and Mi Home stores across the country. Reliance Jio is providing double data on select prepaid plans for up to four years and an instant cash back of Rs 2,400.
