New Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ to Get Android 9 Pie Based One UI in January 2019

Samsung has finally updated its Android 9 Pie roadmap. The company has updated the future Android 9 Pie plans on its Members app. After the update, the roadmap now shows that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – which is already in the beta testing stage of Android 9 Pie-based One UI, will get the stable update of the software in the month of February 2019. In the updated roadmap, Samsung has revealed that the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ will receive the Android 9 Pie update in the month of January next year. The South Korean smartphone manufacturer, however, has said that Android 9 Pie software update rollout will happen initially only in select regions.

So, there’s no surety for now whether or not the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ India users will get Android 9 Pie’s sweetness. In addition, the updated roadmap also includes some of the budget-friendly Samsung phones besides the flagships. It includes phones like Galaxy J3 (2017), Galaxy J4, Galaxy J4+, and Galaxy J7 (2017). There’s no mention of the other phones launched in 2018.

Complete List Samsung Phones Getting Android 9 Pie

In the updated roadmap, Samsung sadly mentions only a few phones. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ make it to the list. According to the updated roadmap, the Galaxy S9 and the S9+ will be the first ones from Samsung to get Android 9 Pie’s sweetness. These phones will be followed by Galaxy Note 9. The Galaxy S9 and the S9+ are said to get the Android 9 Pie update in January, while Note 9 will follow them and get the software update in Feb. These three phones will be followed by some of the affordable Samsung phones like Galaxy J3 (2017), Galaxy J4, Galaxy J4+, and Galaxy J7 (2017). It’s good to see Samsung adding its mid-range smartphones to the list.

It is worth noting that Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ started receiving One UI based on Android Pie update in Germany beginning this week. This otherwise means that Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ users in all regions will get the software update very soon.

The updated roadmap has revealed that after the Galaxy S9 and S9+ and the Note 9, Android 9 Pie based on One UI will come with Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and also the Galaxy Note 8. Samsung recently said that it would stop future software updates to the s8 series, but it looks like the plan has been changed. According to the report, it also looks like Samsung has skipped the Android 9 Pie based One UI update for the older devices like Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Several Galaxy A Smartphones Also Included in the List

The Members app list also mentions the Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A8+ (2018), Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy A9 (2018), and Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 will get updated to the Android 9 Pie in April next year. The updated roadmap also mentions that the Galaxy J4, Galaxy J4+, Galaxy J6, Galaxy J6+, and Galaxy A8 Star will receive the Pie update in May.

The list further reveals that the Galaxy J7 (2017) will receive the Android Pie update in July next year, while the Galaxy J7 Duo, Galaxy J3 (2017), Galaxy Xcover4, and Galaxy Tab S3 will get the update in September. The list ends with Galaxy Tab A (2017), Galaxy Tab Active 2, and Galaxy Tab A 10.5 – these devices are said to get the Android 9 Pie update in October.
